43,000 returning OFWs sent back to their provinces --OWWA

By MB Online A total of 43,000 overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) have been sent back to their home provinces amid the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) epidemic, Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) said Tuesday. "Well as of last night... umakyat na po sa 43,000 since May 15 'yung inter-agency efforts, DOLE , OWWA, CAAP , PCG , PPA , BOQ mga inter-agency under IATF ay 'yan ang naisagawa," OWWA administrator Hans Leo Cacdac said in an interview on DZBB. Around 3,500 OFWs are still staying in hotels which are being utilized as quarantine facilities, he added. "Patuloy pa rin ang paniniguro na mabilisang paglabas ng resulta... Alam natin may mga resulta na 'yung higit 2,500 so ongoing 'yung efforts ng papapauwi sa kanila." He also noted that the government is expecting 16,000 more OFWs to arrive in the country this month. "Isinasagawa na 'yung efforts sa pag-o-organize. In fact nasa Clark kami ngayon para sa isang event na related doon... 'yung mga nag-land...," Cacdac said. Meanwhile, Cacdac said the agency is already preparing the guidelines for the P10,000 cash assistance for the active OWWA members.
