The number of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases among Filipinos abroad has breached the 2,500 marks with the addition of 43 new confirmed cases, the Department of Foreign Affairs reported on Friday.
Of the total 2,504 cases, there are five new recoveries recorded in the Americas, Asia-Pacific, and the Middle East, and two new deaths in the Middle East as well.
“The latest figures represent a global picture of countries in different stages of the COVID story where Europe and the Middle East still have the highest number of COVID-19 positive Filipinos, Asia and the Pacific has the fewest number of cases, while the Americas still has the highest number of fatalities,” the DFA explained in its latest report.
As of May 22, 2020, there are 1,351 Filipinos abroad still undergoing treatment, 866 recoveries, and 287 deaths.
All these COVID-19 cases were recorded in 46 countries and major regions such as Europe, the Americas, the Asia-Pacific, the Middle East, and Africa.
Based on the DFA tally, Europe has 752 cases, the Middle East and Africa with 713, the Americas with 544, and Asia-Pacific with 452.
