Joint Task Force COVID Shield will be sending 348 policemen and soldiers to Navotas City to assist local authorities in implementing a city-wide lockdown starting July 16.

Police Lt. Gen. Guillermo Lorenzo Eleazar, commander of the JTF COVID Shield, said among those to be deployed in the area are 81 Special Action Force (SAF) commandos.
“Our task is to contain the unnecessary movement of people and keep all residents at home except for the medical frontliners and other people who are authorized to go out. We will also ensure that those who are allowed to go out shall comply with minimum health safety protocols,” said Eleazar.
Also to be deployed in the area are 100 policemen from the Northern Police District District Mobile Forces Battalion, 100 policemen from the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) Regional Mobile Forces Battalion, 42 from the Philippine National Police (PNP) Maritime Group, and 25 soldiers from the military’s Joint Task Force-NCR.
Most of the policemen will be deployed at checkpoints, while others will conduct regular patrol reconnaissance in the city.
Personnel from the PNP Maritime Group, on the other hand, will be deployed along the coastline of the city.
Based on latest data, Navotas City has almost 1,000 COVID-19 cases with more than half of them active.
At least 325 have recovered while 59 residents succumbed to the infection.
The 220 beds set up by the Navotas City LGU for its infected residents have already reached full capacity.
