32 new COVID-19 cases, 30 recoveries, 5 deaths among Filipinos abroad – DFA

The Department of Foreign Affairs on Wednesday reported in its latest tally 32 new confirmed coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) cases, 30 new recoveries, and 5 deaths among Filipinos abroad.

This brings the total number of COVID-19 cases among overseas Filipinos to 8,506 of which 2,821 are live cases, 5,131 have recovered, or have been discharged from the hospitals while a total of 554 succumbed to the disease.

All the new confirmed cases were recorded in the Americas, Asia and the Pacific and Europe while the new deaths were monitored in two countries in the Americas and the Asia and the Pacific regions, respectively.

“To date, the total number of Filipinos abroad who are under treatment and those who have recovered remains at 33 percent and 60 percent of the total confirmed cases, respectively. While the total number of death is placed at 6.5 percent,” the DFA said.

Earlier on Wednesday, DFA Undersecretary Brigido Dulay said the Philippine government, through the Inter-Agency Task Force on COVID-19, is now preparing for the return of the remains of more than 300 Filipinos who died in Saudi Arabia, including those who died from COVID-19 infection.

Dulay explained that efforts are now being made to charter a plane that will bring home the cadavers while the processing of documentation is being attended to by the Philippine Embassy and consulates in Saudi Arabia.
