3,155 workers benefit from DOLE assistance in Caraga region

BUTUAN CITY - The regional office of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) here has already assisted 3,155 workers in Northeastern Mindanao or Caraga region as part of government efforts to tide them through the crisis wrought by the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic.

DOLE 13 Regional Director Chona M. Mantilla told The Manila Bulletin that these workers were being assisted through the agency’s COVID-19 Adjustment Measure Program (CAMP) a fund assistance for the private sector.
About 261 companies spread from the five provinces and six cities in Northeastern Mindanao were already served under CAMP, she said.
More than P15,838,100 were already disbursed by the agency for CAMP since last week.
She added the agency was processing another P40,180,080 for another batch intended for displaced workers during the community quarantine imposed because of the threat of the dreaded COVID-19 pandemic.
Employees, who are eligible to avail of CAMP include those working as regular or permanent, on probationary status; contractual, or employed in private establishments whose operations were affected due to the COVID-19 deadly disease.
Aside from CAMP, the agency was also helping workers in the informal sectors avail of the “Tulong Pangkabuhayan Alang sa mga Disadvantaged Workers” or TUPAD.
Last week, CAMP beneficiaries who initially received assistance from the agency were from the provinces of Agusan del Norte, Surigao del Norte, Agusan del Sur and Surigao del Norte.
The first batch of release on March 26, amounting to P2,063,220, covered 411 workers in Agusan del Norte province.
On Monday, March 30, DOLE Caraga Region 13 released again P1,516,040 to 302 workers from Surigao del Norte, P1,450,780 to 289 workers from Surigao del Sur and P577,300 to 115 workers in Agusan del Sur.
“Our agency, through the active effort of our Secretary Silvestre Bello is trying all possible means in fast-tracking the necessary documentations so that the assistance will immediately reach to our workers who are affected of this disease,” added Director Mantilla, in an exclusive interview with The Manila Bulletin late Friday afternoon.
She added that the budget recommended amount (base on the submitted papers from the different companies in the region) forwarded to the central office will be downloaded back to Caraga region, definitely the money will be given immediately to the beneficiaries.
