Thirty-one barangays in the city of Manila will be placed under a 48-hour hard lockdown starting Wednesday over rising numbers of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases.

Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso (Manila City Public Information Office / MANILA BULLETIN)
Manila Mayor Francisco "Isko Moreno" Domagoso on Tuesday (June 30) signed Executive Order No. 31, ordering the implementation of enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) in the 31 barangays from 12 a.m. on Wednesday (July 4) to 11:59 p.m. on Thursday (July 5).The order was issued after the Manila Health Department (MHD) verified that these barangays logged over three confirmed COVID-19 cases in the last two weeks.
The MHD said there are a total of 147 confirmed COVID-19 cases in these barangays.
During the lockdown, members of the MHD will be conducting disease surveillance, rapid risk assessment, and testing operations in the 31 barangays in a bid to curb the spread of COVID-19.
No one will be allowed to leave their houses during the lockdown period.
The order, however, exempts the following: health workers, military personnel, service workers (pharmacies, drug stores, and funeral homes), utility workers (energy, cable, internet, telecommunication companies, water, sanitation, and critical transport facilities including port operation), essential workers (goods delivery, food delivery, banking and money services), barangay officials, and media practitioners accredited by the Presidential Communications Operations Office and the Inter-Agency Task Force.
All commercial, industrial, retail, institutional, and other activities not mentioned in the exemptions will be temporarily suspended during the lockdown.
Elements of the Manila Police District (MPD) and barangay officials will be deployed to ensure the proper implementation of the lockdown.
