200 violators caught on first day of Tondo 1 hard lockdown

(Photo courtesy of Manila Public Information Office/ MANILA BULLETIN) Data from the Manila Police District (MPD) showed that as of 6:30 p.m. on Sunday, May 3, a total of 181 violators, including 11 minors, have been arrested. According to the MPD, most of the violators were caught at Barangay 105. At least 62 adults and the 11 minors were arrested there. Police said that the arrested adult violators, who are being held in covered courts that were converted into holding facilities, will undergo inquest proceedings while the minors were returned to their parents. Manila Mayor Francisco "Isko Moreno" Domagoso also bared that a total of 1,409 residents in the district were tested for the coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19). Of this number, 109 tested positive for the disease using rapid test kits. Those who tested positive, as well as those who tested negative but showed symptoms of COVID-19, were sent to undergo confirmatory PCR testing. Tondo District 1 was placed under a 48-hour hard lockdown by the city mayor from 5 a.m. on Sunday, May 3 to 5 a.m. on Tuesday, May 5 due to the rising COVID-19 cases and violators in the area. Tondo District 1 is the second district with the highest number of COVID-19 cases in the city, with 104 cases as of Sunday afternoon. Sampaloc, that was the first to be put under a 48-hour hard lockdown, remains as the district with the highest number of COVID-19 cases at 118. The Philippine capital now has a total 746 confirmed COVID-19 cases with 73 deaths and 111 recoveries.
