The two new cases bring the total of infected prisoners at CIW to 21 including one who is confined at the Sta. Ana Hospital and 18 who were transferred to the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) medium security camp quarantine area in Muntinlupa.
BuCor said the two were part of the group that was tested at the same time but the results of the two were released only yesterday. It said the two infected prisoners will join the 18 at the NBP quarantine facility.
There are now 21 prisoners and one BuCor medical staff at the CIW who are confirmed COVID-19 cases. The 20 were exposed to a 72-year-old CIW inmate who tested positive for the virus, the first case under BuCor.
On Thursday, BuCor recorded its first COVID-19 positive inmate at the NBP. The 56-year-old male prisoner at the medium security camp underwent medical check-up at the NBP Hospital on April 17 and was admitted to the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine (RITM) on the same day and later tested positive for COVID-19.
There are also 40 NBP prisoners who were put in the isolation area after being in contact with the patient.
Under BuCor, there are now 23 infected persons consisting of 22 prisoners and one medical staff as of press time.
“Meanwhile, other prison and penal farms reported no case of COVID-19 in their area of responsibility. They are implementing strict security measures and disease prevention measures while also preparing their teams in case of COVID-19 infection occurs in their respective areas,” the BuCor said.
