Two officials of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) have placed themselves under self-quarantine after learning they were exposed to a person who tested positive for coronavirus disease.
The officials are Assistant Secretary Celine Pialogo, spokesperson of the agency, and General Manager (GM) Jose Arturo Garcia.
Pialago said they were exposed to a person with COVID-19 two weeks ago.
"As advised by GM Garcia, I am one of those who need to self-quarantine since I attended a meeting where another attendee later tested positive for COVID-19. The GM himself was at the same meeting and is also doing self-quarantine," she said.
"This is part of the protocol to stop the spread of the disease."
Meanwhile, Pialago urged those they have been in contact with to self-quarantine as well.
"I ask those I have been personally in contact with, please do the same, as you may be at risk. Please don't underestimate COVID-19 and make sure to carry out proper hygiene and health measures," she said.
Pialogo said she has not been tested because she does not show any symptoms of the disease, saying only people with symptoms are being prioritized.
The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases continue to go up in the country, based on the daily announcements of the Department of Health. President Duterte recently placed the entire country under a state of calamity due to COVID-19.
