1st COVID-19 case in Western Visayas reported in Bacolod

(GLAZYL MASCULINO / MANILA BULLETIN FILE PHOTO) Leonardia made the announcement after he was informed by Department of Health (DOH) -6 regional director Dr. Marlyn Convocar through a phone call confirming the positive test on the patient under investigation (PUI) Leonardia ,in an urgent press conference at the Bacolod City Government Center, said that the patient was a 56-year-old Filipino male with travel history to London. Leonardia said that the patient arrived here on February 29, and was admitted in a hospital here on March 6. His swab sample was taken on March 12 to the Research Institute of Tropical Medicine (RITM). After receiving such report, Leonardia ordered the City Health Office (CHO) to conduct immediate and intensive contact tracing. Leonardia also asked the CHO to solicit the assistance of the police to make sure that they will have an accurate contact tracing, including the places that the patient visited when he returned here. Dr. Carmela Gensoli, head of City Health Office (CHO), said that they will have to back track all the activities of the patient to identify the persons with close contact to him from his flight in London until he arrived here. “We are doing our very best to track all those people,” she added. Gensoli said the patient is recovering and showing signs of improvement. He was advised to stay at the hospital for another 14 days, she added. Meanwhile, Leonardia said there’s no lockdown here and there’s no need to elevate the current status to enhanced community quarantine. “We will going to be more stringent in our implementation of the general community quarantine. We should be stricter in our curfew and check up points,” he added. “This is war but we don’t know where the enemy is. We can fight this if we all cooperate and follow the proper safety protocols,” the mayor said. He appealed to the people here to stay at home, exercise proper hygiene, and observe social distancing.
