CAGAYAN – At least 197 overseas Filipino workers (OFW), who were stranded in Manila due to travel restrictions, are now back in the province.
(CAGAYAN PIO)
This was disclosed by Dr. Wilfredo Tolentino of the Provincial Health Office (PHO) in his report to Governor Manuel N. Mamba Friday after checking the evacuation center at the Cagayan Sports Complex which will serve as the drop-off and pick-up points of OFWs fetched by the provincial government in Manila.
According to Tolentino the first batch composed of six OFWs arrived on May 25, followed by 47 on May 26, 62 on May 27, 70 on May 28 and 12 on May 29. All of them are now at the evacuation center.
Base on the data of the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA), around 800 OFWs were expected to return to their respective provinces in Cagayan.
Meanwhile, Mamba appealed to his fellow Cagayanos not to discriminate against returning OFWs because they have already undergone strict protocols and the national government has made sure that they were not carriers of the deadly virus.
“Hindi dapat sila katakutan dahil dumaan sila sa PCR testing, kaya’t siguradong wala silang COVID-19 at puwede na silang dumerecho sa kanilang pamilya at pamayanan,” Mamba said.
