17,480 more Sinovac jabs for Central Visayas arrive in Cebu

CEBU CITY – The second batch of Sinovac COVID-19 vaccines arrived here Friday.

The 17,480 doses of the China-made CoronaVac vaccines are part of the COVID-19 jabs intended for healthcare workers in Central Visayas, which covers Cebu, Bohol, Negros Oriental, and Siquijor.

The first delivery composed of 7,200 doses arrived here last Tuesday.

Dr. Mary Jean Loreche, spokesperson of the Department of Health-Central Visayas (DOH Region 7), said the second shipment will be distributed to Level III hospitals, government hospitals, laboratories, and even private hospitals in the region.

Additional doses will be delivered in the coming days, Loreche said.

Loreche added that the four provinces in the region need at least 60,000 doses for its medical and healthcare personnel from private and government centers.

The vaccination rollout started last Thursday at the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center (VSMMC) in this city where at least 75 hospital workers were vaccinated.

An additional 500 VSMMC staff were expected to receive their vaccines Friday.

Loreche was among the health officials who received the vaccine last Thursday.

She revealed that a day after receiving the vaccine, she did not feel any discomfort except for a minor pain on the shoulder as a result of the prick.

"I don't feel any untoward events event after the vaccination and now almost 24 hours except for a little pain at the injection site. I don't have nausea or vomiting or sickness or headache,” she said.
