CEBU CITY—Seventeen policemen in Mandaue City tested positive for coronavirus disease (COVID-19).
Four of the infected policemen were from Station 5 in Barangay Opao, said Police Col. Jonathan Abella, chief of the Mandaue City Police Office (MCPO).
Abella said the Station 5 was locked down after the swab test results of the infected policemen came out Monday.
“Through our incident command system, the nearest police station from Station 5 will be the one to answer to any alarm in Opao,” said Abella.
The four policemen may have contracted the disease from an inmate, who earlier tested positive for the virus.
The other infected personnel were part of the Crisis Management Battalion who were sent to Mandaue as an augmentation force.
The infected law enforcers were all asymptomatic.
“They are now isolated. Some are in isolation centers in the city while some whose houses meet the home quarantine guidelines are in home isolation,” Labella said.
Thorough disinfection in police offices and having the needed protective gears are among the steps that the MCPO has taken to protect the other policemen from COVID-19, said Abella.
