14 Pangasinan gov't hospitals ordered to keep an eye on nCoV

By Liezle Basa-Inigo  LINGAYEN, Pangasinan-- The Provincial Health Office (PHO) ordered 14 government hospitals in the province to intensify monitoring patients, especially with those flu-like symptoms amid the 2019 novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV) outbreak in some countries. Dr. Anna Ma. Teresa de Guzman , PHO chief noted that there were protocols needed to be implemented just like when there was outbreak of severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) and Middle East respiratory syndrome (MERS) viruses. All incoming patients are bring monitored from the emergency room. De Guzman said patients were being checked if they have history of travel, especially in areas where novel coronavirus infection has been reported. Dasol Community Hospital, Bolinao Community Hospital, and the Western Pangasinan District Hospital are strictly being monitored as these are located in coastal areas. “We anticipate that some Chinese fishermen will still sail in from the West Philippine Sea, where they may encounter fishermen from the coastal areas of western Pangasinan,” de Guzman told. De Guzman explained that health officials were advised to orient the fishermen on how to avoid possible acquisition of the virus. De Guzman noted that frequent and proper hand washing  can help a lot and  still among the best ways to prevent spread of any virus. Likewise, she urged public to refrain from beso-beso (cheek to cheek greeting) or even handshakes so as not to spread the bacteria or virus.
