13,000 Army soldiers deployed to enforce ECQ

By MB Online Around 13,000 Philippine Army personnel nationwide were deployed to help the Philippine National Police (PNP) in implementing the ongoing enhanced community quarantine (ECQ). “Almost 13,000 ang dineploy natin. About 12,600. Ang duty lamang ng mga kasundaluhan na iyan ay to support PNP sa ECQ nationwide,” said Army Public Affairs Office chief Colonel Ramon Zagala in an interview over DZBB Sunday. Zagala said additional troops were deployed after the local government units of the cities of Makati, Taguig, and Pateros requested for the troops. "Nagsimula na tayo magdagdag last April 21. Nagkaroon tayo ng dagdag pwersa kasi nagrequest ang bayan ng Makati, Taguig at Pateros," he said. He also clarified that the PA are only assigned to the three cities mentioned. “This is until April 30 pero since nilawakan, aabot ito ng middle of May,” he added. President Duterte earlier threatened to declare martial law in the country if the rebel New People's Army continued its attacks on the military and the police.
