100 cops from Western and Eastern Visayas deployed in Cebu City

By Aaron Recuenco At least 100 policemen from Western and Eastern Visayas were sent to Cebu City to help in the strict implementation of the quarantine rules after these regions were reverted back to the Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ). Archie Gamboa, chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP), said the augmentation forces will help ensure that lockdown measures are in place to prevent the spread of the Corona Virus Disease (COVID-19). “The Regional Health Services of Police Regional Office 6 and Police Regional Office 8 were tasked to ensure that all have undergone requisite health checks prior to departure from their home regions,” said Gamboa. The sending of additional policemen was based on the recommendation of Lt. Gen. Guillermo Eleazar, deputy chief for Operations and concurrent commander of the Joint Task Force COVID Shield. Eleazar said the Eastern Visayas Regional Police will be sending a total of 54 policemen while the Western Visayas will be deploying 50 of its personnel. “The Philippine National Police adheres to the true spirit of Bayanihan in addressing the problems related to the COVID-19 in Cebu City. That is why the Regional Directors of PRO 6 and PRO 8 readily agreed to send their men to work with the Cebu City Police Office as one, to enforce as one and to succeed as one,” said Eleazar. Earlier, Interior Secretary Eduardo Año tasked the JTF COVID Shield to also focus on Metro Cebu as ECQ was implemented again in the area due to the continuous rise of COVID cases.
