Uptick in Covid-19 cases seen in Metro Manila — OCTA

Metro Manila had an uptick in Covid-19 cases as fresh cases increased by 7 percent over the past week, the OCTA Research said in its latest monitoring on Sunday, May 1.

“The NCR (National Capital Region) had a one week growth rate of 7 percent as the seven-day average in new Covid-19 cases increased from 79, as of April 17 to 23, to 85, as of April 24 to 30,” OCTA fellow Dr. Guido David said in an update posted on Twitter.

David also said that Metro Manila’s reproduction number—the average number of secondary infections by each infected individual—has increased from 0.66 to 0.79 during the same period.

Although there was an increase in Covid-19 cases and reproduction number, David pointed out that Metro Manila’s Covid risk level remains “low.”

Moreover, he noted that the region’s healthcare and ICU utilization for Covid-19 remained “very low” at 21 percent and 19 percent, respectively.

“The positivity rate in Metro Manila remained at 1.4 percent over an average of 11,544 tests per day,” David added.

Positivity rate refers to the number of individuals who yielded positive results from among those who have been tested for Covid-19.
