The Philippine National Police (PNP) dismissed on Wednesday, April 27, reports of destabilization connected to the outcome of the May 9 elections.
But Maj. Gen. Valeriano de Leon, head of the Directorate for Operations, said they are ready for any contingency.
"It's just a speculation. But when you plan for election, you should include all possible scenarios," said De Leon who is also the concurrent deputy commander of the National Security Task Force on National and Local Elections
De Leon said the PNP is also ready to beef up the number of cops that were declared under Commission on Elections (Comelec) control.
“There are reports and information that there are groups and individuals who are trying to disrupt the outcome of the elections. So we are preparing for this," he said.
Part of the election security measures, he said, is the deployment of special operations teams in areas that are included in the hotspot list.
