Over 7K individuals vaccinated vs Covid-19 in vax sites set up on election day

More than 7,000 people were vaccinated against Covid-19 in the different temporary vaccination sites that were set up near voting centers on election day, the Department of Health (DOH) reported on Tuesday, May 10.
A total of 333 vaccination sites were set up near polling places across the country, said DOH Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire on Tuesday, May 10.
"Bagama't abala ang lahat sa pagpili ng mga bagong pinuno kahapon sa halalan 2022, abala din po ang Department of Health sa pagtuturok ng bakuna dahil nakapagtayo po tayo ng (Although everyone was busy voting new leaders yesterday in the 2022 election, the Department of Health is also busy administering vaccines as we have set up) 333 temporary vaccination sites courtesy of our local government units," she said.
"7,407 ang ating nabakunahan sa 333 vaccination sites na ating na i-set up sa araw ng halalan (7,407 people were vaccinated in the 333 vaccination sites that were set up during election day)," she noted.
Violations on health protocols
Meanwhile, Vergeire said that they noted some violations of health protocols during the election. She particularly mentioned the adherence to physical distancing protocol.
"In other voting centers, naipatupad ng maayos ang ating mga sinet na safety protocols (the safety protocols were properly implemented)," said Vergeire.
"But we recognize and we have observed na may mga areas na naobserbahan natin kahapon na hindi nakasunod sa ating mga itinalagang safety protocols (that there were areas yesterday that do not comply with our safety protocols),” she added.
The DOH spokesperson said they will monitor if there will be an increase in Covid-19 cases in the coming days.
“So, we will be closely monitoring. We know that the incubation period of the virus is 14 days. But we also know that because of this variant it may be shorter than 14 days," she said.
"So, we will see in the next two weeks kung meron magiging pagtaas ng kaso (if there will be an increase in cases) because of these activities during the election day,” she added.
