NCRPO says only 70,000 to 80,000 attended Leni's Pasay grand rally

The crowd estimate on the birthday campaign rally of Vice President and presidential candidate Leni Robredo on Saturday, April 23, at the Macapagal Boulevard in Pasay City was further reduced to 70,000 to 80,000.

In a statement released on Monday, April 25, the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) also mentioned that "the rally was attended first by groups of supporters coming from different areas displaying banners of support to Leni-Kiko tandem."

"As to its entirety, the Leni- Kiko grand campaign rally was generally peaceful. It was attended to by an estimated crowd of more or less 70,000 to 80,000 supporters and volunteers onboard of MOL (more or less) 300 cars 15 buses, 100 MCs (motorcycles) and 15 PUJs (public utility jeepneys)," the statement read.

"It was also noted that a great number of rallyist did not stay for the whole duration of the event but left after a while," it added.

The statement also read: "Thereafter, they (Leni-Kiko campaign supporters) converged at the main rally site while other attendees mostly stayed in nearby establishments like malls and restaurants."

Organizers of the event earlier said that the number of those who attended the campaign rally was at least 412,000.

The NCRPO was earlier quoted saying that the number of people who attended the Leni-Kiko campaign rally was between 90,000 to 100,000.

“To sum up, these rallies conducted by the supporters of our presidential aspirants started and cocluded peacefully. We greatly appreciate the cooperation of the attendees and the organizers which paved way to the successful peace and security operation during the event," said NCRPO director Police Maj. Gen. Felipe Natividad.

The NCRPO statement said the Leni-Kino campaign rally was just one of the three political events that they secured over the weekend.

Aside from the Leni-Kiko grand rally in Pasay City, the tandem of Bongbong Marcos and Sara Duterte held a campaign rally in Manila while presidential candidate Sen. Manny Pacquiao held the same in San Juan City.

The NCRPO statement, however, did not mention any crowd estimate on the two other political events.

This was not the first time that the police downgraded the crowd estimate on Leni-Kiko campaign rally.

During the Pampanga campaign rally, organizers said the crowd estimate was at 220,00 but the Police Regional Office 3 later issued a statement that it was only 70,000.
