President Joe Biden of the United States (US). President Xi Jinping of China.

These leaders from two powerful countries have already sent their congratulations to the Philippines's presumptive president for the next six years, Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. This, after the Partido Federal ng Pilipinas (PFP) standard-bearer secured an apparent majority vote mandate in the May 9 polls--something that will still be discussed and dissected in the weeks to come.

In fact, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken has referred ro Marcos as the "president-elect", which isn't accurate based on the Philippines electoral process. The UniTeam candidate will only be called such after he declared the victor in the Palace race by the National Board of Canvassers, which is this case is Congress.

Marcos will then carry the president-elect title until June 30 , 2022, when he formally assumes President Duterte's place in Malacañang.

In anticipation of this, Duterte has formed the five-man Presidential Transition Committee (PTC) to ensure the smooth transition of power to the next administration. Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea will chair the PTC.
