Honey Lacuna wins, becomes Manila's first female mayor

Vice Mayor Ma. Sheila "Honey" Lacuna was proclaimed the new mayor of the City of Manila on Wednesday, May 11, becoming the first woman chief executive of the nation’s capital.

Lacuna led the mayoral race with 534,595 votes, according to final results from the City Board of Canvassers.

She was followed by Atty. Alex Lopez with 165,551 votes; Amado Bagatsing with 118,944; Christy Lim with 14,770; and Elmer Jamias with 3,998.

Lacuna is the first woman in the history of the city to hold the post.

Her running mate, Rep. candidate Yul Servo Nieto was also proclaimed the new vice mayor of the city with 582,941 votes.

Nieto was followed by Raymond Bagatsing with 183,684 votes; and Arvin Reyes with 12,221.

Lacuña worked as a physician at the city health office. She also served as city councilor from 2004 to 2013.

She made history when she became the first female vice mayor of the nation's capital in 2016.

In 2019, she teamed up with Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso to secure re-election as vice mayor.
