Elevating all things coffee with a combination of sustainability and style

Nespresso has recently launched its Vertuo machine, aiming to take at-home coffee experiences to the next level. The latest innovation from the global brand uses the Centrifusion technology, which creates better separation of oil and water, forming better crema volume. With its sleek modern design, the new machine empowers a new generation of baristas and elevates the ultimate coffee experience at home.
During the recent Vertuo launch, Patrick Pesengco, managing director of Novateur Coffee Concepts, Inc., expressed excitement, saying, “We’re particularly excited about [Vertuo]. The actual device is so intuitive and sleek, but we also feel that the range is a step in the right direction in terms of coffee appreciation, especially with the expanded range of roasts and flavors. This will definitely be a welcome addition in homes across the Philippines.”
Chef Josh Boutwood, Melissa Valdez, Patrick Pesengco, Pia Wurtzbach, Mia Silva, Yna Santos, and Nespresso Philippines’ coffee brand ambassador JR Abril
The launch event was held at Ember restaurant in Makati City, where a customized menu specially made by Chef Josh Boutwood highlighted the rich, bold flavors of Nespresso, offering a sneak peek into a holistic approach to cafe-style coffee at home.
Melissa Valdez, commercial and marketing head, praised working with Chef Josh, who understands Nespresso's ethos, passionate about elevating experiences and transforming ingredients into extraordinary dishes with an innovative sense of craftsmanship.
Miss Universe 2015 and Nespresso Brand Evangelist Pia Wurtzbach relayed her love for coffee and the brand. “I’ve been a huge fan of Nespresso for a long time, and I’m not shy about it! I’m so pleased to be working with them and I can’t wait for people to try Vertuo for themselves,” she mentioned.
The brand’s coffee ambassador JR Abril demonstrated Vertuo's capabilities, highlighting brewing styles, cup sizes, the one-touch system, new flavors, and the patented technologies behind the latest machine. Melissa emphasized Vertuo's versatility and variety of options. "Our tagline is 'Discover cafe-style coffee at home,'” she said. “We believe what Filipinos appreciate about having their coffee in cafes is the range of options they have. So depending on their mood for the day or their preference, they can order what they want."
Apart from the range of options available, the machine's One Touch system is particularly convenient as it takes the original system to the next level. The capsules are equipped with barcodes that are read by the new machine when the pod is inserted, automatically adjusting the parameters for brewing, including water volume, temperature, and extraction speed.
With sustainability at its core, the brand is committed to recycling and upcycling efforts. Melissa shared how the new machine fits into their eco-conscious DNA, stating, "Vertuo, just like our original line, has capsules made of aluminum, which is infinitely recyclable. All efforts are in place in collecting used pods for our customers, and then we channel them to different recycling facilities."
With this, when aluminum is recycled, it is transformed into completely new aluminum bars which can be utilized for the production of various items. A recycling partner of Nespresso then supplies the aluminum bars to manufacturers of automotive and motorcycle parts.
“Our partners for recycling in the Philippines are all local. We have local smelters, and we also have a tie-up with farms where we provide them with used coffee grounds as organic compost," Melissa explained. "For upcycling, we have a tie-up with Negrense Volunteers for Change, a Negros-based organization that creates accessories, artworks, and crafts using Nespresso pods."
The Vertuo comes in seven colors in the Philippines: matte black, gray, red, white, glossy black, brown, and chrome, available at Nespresso retail stores nationwide and can be purchased online via its website. The price starts at P16,500.
