GOSSIP GIRL: Celebs who won in 2022 national elections

Action star Robin Padilla is indeed the breakout senator in the Philippines’ 2022 national elections, as he leads in the partial and unofficial tally of votes for the senatorial race. Six out of the 12 senators who won are celebrities from the media or entertainment - Loren Legarda, Raffy Tulfo and Risa Hontiveros are members of the media while actor Jinggoy Estrada and JV Ejercito Estrada are sons of action star and 13th President of the Philippines Joseph Ejercito Estrada.

In an interview on ABS-CBN, Padilla revealed that he never expected to lead the senatorial race. “Wala po, kahit sa magandang panaginip, hindi ko naramdaman o naisip na ako ay mangunguna na karera na ito, sa pagiging senador. Una, wala naman po akong makinarya, wala naman po akong pera, wala po ako lahat. Ang akin lang po ay paninindigan at mga tulong ng mga kaibigan, asawa ko, si Pangulong Duterte, si Senator Bong Go.”
