Elderly man dies, seven injured as ‘kuliglig’ overturns in Abra road


LICUAN-BAAY, Abra – A 65-year-old man died, while seven others were injured, after the “kuliglig” they were riding overturned along the Abra-Kalinga Road in Sitio Nagwayan, Barangay Subagan in this town on Saturday, March 25.

According to the Licuan-Baay Municipal Police Station, the improvised tri-wheeled vehicle carrying 14 passengers was going down along the Abra-Kalinga Road when its brake suddenly malfunctioned, causing the driver to lose control of it.

Responding personnel from the Licuan-Baay MPS, Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) Licuan-Baay, Licuan-Baay Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO), and the Philippine Army immediately brought the victims to the Abra Provincial Hospital.

One of the victims identified as Molino Sabado, 65, was declared dead on arrival at the Abra Provincial Hospital.

Seven passengers who suffered injuries were Benito Baula, 26, Gemma Sigabu Gudtan, 52, Mario Gudtan, 54, Jackson Cayung, 34, Anita Zapata, 69, Delfin Tandingan, 61, and Marcelino Baola, 64.

The other five passengers – Oswald Zapata, 33, Carlo Jay Amado, 30, Arthur Buyao, 28, and two minors – sustained minor injuries and were sent home after medical assessment.

Meanwhile, the driver, Jafer Ramirez Tangonan, 43, is now in the custody of the Licuan-Baay MPS for investigation.
