Comelec says proclamation of winning senators will not be delayed

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) said the proclamation of the 12 winning senators in the May 9 polls will not be delayed.

"The earlier we could proclaim, the better," Comelec Acting Spokesperson John Rex Laudiangco said in a press briefing, Thursday, May 12.

"Once we reach the point where we have covered most of the Certificates of Canvass, and those remaining votes will not affect the results anymore, the Comelec will not delay the proclamation," he added.

The poll body is eyeing the proclamation of the winning senators in a week's time or early next week.

Meanwhile, there is a possibility of party-lists winners being proclaimed later than the senators as the computation of the 63-seat party-list allocation would require the total number of votes cast for the party-list system.

"All the votes for party-lists will be totalled. In order to get that, we need to get all the votes for party-lists," Laudiangco said.

Under the party-list formula to be used, all groups that have reached the two percent threshold will be assured of one seat in the House of Representatives.

The Comelec en banc, sitting as the National Board of Canvassers, is currently canvassing the votes for senators and party-Lists at the Philippine International Convention Center Forum Tent in Pasay City.
