Bulacan town police chief shot dead by robbers; P1.2M reward offered vs gunmen
Two armed robbers shot dead the chief of police of San Miguel, Bulacan who was leading the conduct of a follow-up operation on a robbery case on Saturday, March 25.
A report reaching Camp Crame in Quezon City disclosed that the shootout between the local policemen and the two armed robbers also resulted in the wounding of a 17-year old minor.
Police Lt. Col. Marlon Serna died after he was hit on the head when the two motorcycle-riding gunmen opened fire at them.
Based on the report, Serna led the follow-up operation on a robbery incident in Barangay San Juan in San Miguel town.
During the pursuit operation, the cops tried to flag down a motorcycle in Barangay Buhol na Mangga in San Ildefonso town but the two riders allegedly fired at them and hit the official on the head.
“The Police Regional Office 3 and Bulacan Police Provincial Office are currently conducting a thorough investigation of the incident to determine the identities of the suspects and to hold them accountable for their actions,” the PNP statement read.
“The Philippine National Police assures the public that they will continue to uphold peace and order in the community and will not tolerate any form of criminal activity,” it added.
In order to expedite the arrest, Department of Interior and Local Government Secretary Benhur Abalos has offered P500,000 for any information that could lead to the arrest of the two gunmen.
Police Regional Office 3 director Brig. Gen. Jose Hidalgo, Jr. also offered P300,000 while national police chief Gen. Rodolfo Azurin, Jr. and Bulacan Gov. Daniel Fernando offered P200,000 each.
