The Philippine National Police (PNP) has recorded six deaths during the conduct of the May 9 elections on Monday.
PNP spokesperson Col. Jean Fajardo said they also recorded 32 wounded people in the 52 cases of violence mostly in Mindanao.
"But we are not yet classifying it as valired (election-related violent incident). These cases are still under investigation," said Fajardo.
Based on the PNP data, two of those killed were in Binidayan town of Lanao del Sur; one in Malabong town, also in Lanao del Sur; and three in Maguindanao.
Most of these cases are in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region (BAR) and these are cases of explosions and shooting incidents," said Fajardo.
Police Lt. Gen. Vicente Danao, PNP officer-in-charge, however, maintained that the 2022 national and local elections are peaceful compared to the 2010 and 2016 presidential elections.
Citing data, he said there were 166 election-related violence in 2010 while 133 incidents in 2016.
“Let me point out that the more important aspects of law enforcement and public safety have been given utmost priority throughout the election period. Rest assured that the PNP Security Task Force for the 2022 National and Local Election, thru the constituted Task Groups, are taking action on the said several cases arising from non-election related incidents as well as election-related violent incidents and prohibited acts,” said Danao.
"The PNP shall continuously conduct aggressive proactive measures to prevent any post election-related incidents and issues to happen," he added.
