REFLECTIONS TODAY
First Reading • Ez 37:12-14
Thus says the Lord God: O my people, I will open your graves and have you rise from them, and bring you back to the land of Israel. Then you shall know that I am the Lord, when I open your graves and have you rise from them, O my people! I will put my spirit in you that you may live, and I will settle you upon your land; thus you shall know that I am the Lord. I have promised, and I will do it, says the Lord.John 11:1-45 [or 11:3-7, 17, 20-27, 33b-45]
There are two things we can reflect on the Gospel. First, Jesus’ way of giving life would lead to his death. He resolves to go to Bethany despite the danger that may be awaiting him there. He is always ready to lay down his life for others to live.Second, Lazarus becomes an instrument for many to believe in Jesus. He also leads a dangerous life in believing in Jesus and in leading others to believe in Jesus.
This conveys the message that life can only be experienced in its fullness when it becomes a life of faith in Jesus who has laid down his life that others may live. Likewise, every follower of Jesus is challenged to also lay down his or her life for others to live.
