DENR hails Pasig LGU as champion in solid waste, ISF management
The Pasig City local government won three major awards in the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) “Gawad Taga-Ilog 3.0: Search for the Most Improved Estero in Metro Manila” awarding ceremony on Friday, March 24, in Quezon City.
It won the champion titles for both the Solid Waste Management (SWM) and Informal Settler Families (ISFs) and Illegal Structures Management categories.
Based on the criteria for the SWM category, Pasig was recognized for its fully functional barangay SWM committee, materials recovery facility (MRF), implementation of information, education, and communication (IEC) campaigns, and regular cleanups.
For the ISF category, the city received praise for the absence of ISFs and illegal structures in the city’s legal easements, maintenance of cleared areas, policies to prevent illegal entrants, census tagging and validation operations, as well as the overall number of ISFs and illegal structures occupying the city’s waterways.
