Capt. Ruby Aurita, spokesperson of the San Carlos City Police Station, said the 45-year-old victim left the house of Roberto Gracia, 78, a week ago, following an argument.

The victim returned to the suspect’s house that day to get her things as she has decided to leave him for good, Aurita said.

The suspect asked for a chance from the victim but she refused. This irked the suspect who hit the victim in the head with a hammer, Aurita said.

Aurita said the victim fell unconscious for a while and when she regained her consciousness, she called for help from their neighbors.

The suspect was arrested and is facing charges for violation of Section 5(a) of Republic Act 9262 or the Anti-Violence Against Women and Their Children Act of 2004.

Aurita said the couple had been living together for about 10 years and this was the first time that the suspect hit the victim despite their series of arguments in the past over the suspect’s jealousy.

The victim is now stable in a hospital, according to Aurita.
