Groups urge national gov't to defend sovereign rights over West PH sea
Several groups gathered in a street event in Barangay Loyola Heights, Quezon City on Saturday, March 25, to raise awareness on the country's sovereign rights over the West Philippine Sea (WPS).
The "Not One Inch" street event was initiated by the Alliance of WPS Watchers, which is a network of organizations and supporters that aim to raise awareness on WPS issues.
"We are not moving, not one inch!," the attendees chanted during the event.
According to Ron Delos Angeles, a member of the Alliance of WPS Watchers, the event was opened to the public for free.
"Our current call is for President "Bongbong" Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. to uphold and be accountable to the statement that he made regarding the disputed territory, and make sure that not an inch of our waters will be lost to foreign nations," he said.
The event was hosted by Sassa Gurl with performances from Drag Den’s Winner Naia and Drag Race Philippines’ Minty Fresh.
The program included solidarity speeches from leaders of various organizations calling on the national government for immediate action on issues regarding the disputed territory.
Artists like Mula sa Buwan’s Lance Reblando, Mrs. Tan, Lumina, and Sarah Geronimo look-alike also entertained the audience.
The event, in partnership with local restaurants, also showcased native dishes and street foods.
Angeles said they also distributed free food to the attendees.
