“GrabCar in Iloilo is a very exciting time as this marks the beginning of our journey towards delivering hundreds of thousands of meaningful livelihoods to our ‘kababayans’ (countrymen). We aim to delight our Ilonggo locals and tourists and deliver the very best service to our consumers as well as our driver and merchant partners,” said Grace Vera Cruz, country head of Grab Philippines, during the launching here on Friday. “We also hope to be a catalyst of digitalization for many of our Ilonggo institutions and become part of everyday life,” added Vera Cruz. As Grab Philippines’ fourth service in Iloilo, GrabCar initially has 100 units that mostly serve this city and can service passengers going to and from the Iloilo Airport in Cabatuan, Iloilo province. Richard Osmeña, Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB)-6 director, said they have allocated 1,700 franchises for GrabCar in this city and Iloilo. Cruz said the service may expand outside of this city and Iloilo Airport when there is enough demand. Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas said the presence of GrabCar benefits the economy and residents as it can create more jobs and opportunities. Grab Philippines has been in Iloilo since 2015 with the launching of GrabTaxi services. The ride-hailing firm later expanded with GrabFood and GrabExpress.
