Gov’t troops, NPA clash in Quezon


MACALELON, Quezon – The police and military clashed with the New People’s Army in Sitio Aak, Barangay Vista Hermosa here on Friday afternoon, March 24.

The 85th Infantry Battalion (IB) led by 2nd Lt. Vincent Semilla and the 2nd Quezon Provincial Mobile Force Company encountered the Platun Reymark, Sub-Regional Military Area 4-B (SRMA), of the Southern Tagalog Regional Party Committee (STRPC) at around 3:15 p.m.

The firefight lasted for about 30 minutes until the NPA withdrew. No casualties were reported on the government side.

Police here have established a checkpoint in support of pursuit operations by the 2nd QPMFC and 85th IB.

The communist guerrillas are believed to be the remnants of the group that government forces fought in San Andres and San Francisco towns, this province, on Jan. 27 and 29.

Authorities are  monitoring Rural Health Units (RHU) in this province for NPAs wounded in the encounter.
