Ateneo fended off a gritty University of the East, 25-16, 25-23, 22-25, 25-19, to begin its second round campaign on a high note in UAAP Season 85 women’s volleyball Saturday, March 25, at the Philsports Arena in Pasig City.

* The Blue Eagles shrugged off a third-set stumble to improve to a 5-3 record for their first back-to-back win this season. Faith Nisperos spearheaded Ateneo with 18 points off 13 attacks and five blocks, which was enough to overwhelm the UE side. UE tries to inch closer to Ateneo with KC Cepada at the forefront of its attack, but the Blue Eagles were a tough nut to crack with Geezel Tsunashima and Lyann De Guzman’s back-to-back points punctuating the match. Despite two players scoring in double figures, UE couldn’t quite make the breakthrough, with Ja Lana and Cepada finishing with 18 points each. The defeat kept the Lady Warriors at the bottom standings with a 0-8 hole.
