Negros Oriental 3rd district Rep. Arnolfo "Arnie" Teves Jr. will be denied of his "monetary privileges" as a congressman, including his salary, during his 60-day suspension.

Thus, said House Secretary General Reginald Velasco when asked about what would happen to Teves amid his suspension.

"Under our rules wala ho siyang entitlement sa salary or all privileges, monetary privileges (Under out rules he has no entitlement to salary or all privileges, monetary privileges)," Velasco told House reporters.

The base pay of a House of Representatives member is Salary Grade (SG) 31, which ranges from P273,000 to P312,000 a month.

On Wednesday, March 22, the 292 House member unanimously voted to suspend Teves for two months for what the Committee on Ethics called "disorderly behavior".

But Velasco admitted that they've encountered a "gray area" since no congressman had been suspended for disorderly behavior before.

"Gray area kasi yan. Wala pang past specific rule dyan (That's a gray area. There's no past specific rule about that). But the House leadership will decide later if the suspension order will cover the office space, the staff," Velasco said.

"Sa ngayon ang provision lang natin sa House rules ay yung sweldo niya lang (For now, the only provision we have on the House rules is on his salary)," he noted.

On the matter of the caretaker for Teves' district during his suspension, Velasco said the House leadership has yet to make a decision on it.
