The Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) on Wednesday, March 23, filed homicide charges and violation of Republic Act 11053 or Anti-Hazing Law against seven members of the Tau Gamma Phi fraternity who were allegedly responsible for the death of Ronnel Baguio in December last year.
Baguio was a student of University of Cebu-Maritime Education and Training Center.
The victim’s mother, Leny Baguio, was around when the charges were filed before the Cebu City Prosecutors’ Office.
The mother was accompanied by officials of the Volunteers Against Crime and Corruption and Public Attorney’s Office-Central Visayas.
Charged were Philip Angelo Salapang, grand triskelion; Mark Einan Hernandez, master initiator; John Thirdy Anog, member; Lei Ruben Siao, deputy grand triskelion; Kevin Muñoz, deputy grand triskelion; Rogelson Gesalago Getaruelas, recruiter and instructor of the victim; and Aldrake Suan, owner of the house where the alleged hazing took place.
Lt. Col. Maria Theresa Macatangay, chief of CCPO’s Investigation and Detective Management Unit, said they will just await the issuance of arrest warrants now that charges have been filed.
Macatangay assured that they have filed an air-tight case against the suspects.
With the identification of the suspects and the filing of charges against them, the case is already considered solved, Macatangay declared.
Lenny for her part thanked the CCPO for working on her son’s case.
Lenny said that she has already forgiven those responsible for her son’s death but her quest for justice will continue.
Col. Ireneo Dalogdog, chief of CCPO, assured that justice will be served by sending the suspects behind bars.
