Leyte power coop orders internet providers to secure permits
TACLOBAN CITY – An electric cooperative in Leyte province has ordered all internet providers attaching lines to its poles to secure a permit from them by March 31 or face disconnection.
The Leyte III Electric Cooperative (Leyeco III) Board of Directors has issued a resolution mandating them to obtain approval pursuant to the standard pole agreement.
"Failure to comply within the grace period means Leyeco III will disconnect all fiber lines attached to the pole of the concerned internet provider," Leyeco III said, adding that they will strictly implement the deadline to prevent the proliferation of spaghetti wires.
National Electrification Administration (NEA) Memorandum Number 2018-055 issued by the NEA Board of Administrators approved the standard pole agreement to maintain the reliability of services dependent on utility poles, improving pole aesthetics, and protecting member-consumer-owners from the risks of service interruption, electrocution, and fire from downed poles and electric lines.
Only 14 internet providers have so far coordinated with their office. They do not have permits and contracts with Leyeco III to attach their lines to their poles.
"Leyeco III understands that high-quality broadband internet is no longer a luxury but a necessity but we also need to ensure the reliability of our power by protecting our distribution lines," it stressed.
