The Department of Health (DOH) said the number of new Covid-19 cases in Metro Manila is still on an upward trend with an average of over 700 infections daily.
Based on its latest Covid-19 situation report, the DOH said most areas in the country are showing a "sharp increase in cases" with Metro Manila "showing the steepest increase, now almost at 750 cases per day."
"NCR cases remain on an uptrend, showing smaller increases in the recent few weeks; 7DMA cases in the current week is higher by 29 percent from the previous week," the DOH said.
The DOH noted that the average daily reported cases from July 8 to July 14 was at 748. This is higher by 29 percent compared to the 582 average daily reported cases from July 1 to July 7.
Despite this development, the DOH said that Metro Manila remains under the low-risk case classification for Covid-19.
National situation
The Philippines remains to be at low-risk classification for Covid-19, the DOH said.
"National and most regions continue to show increases in cases but remain at low risk case classification with average daily attack rates at low risk," the DOH said.
"National case trend shows continuous increase, now averaging more than 1,700 cases per day in the recent week," it added.
However, the country's health system's capacity is nowhere near being overwhelmed.
"Healthcare utilization rates also at low risk in all regions. National severe and critical admissions remain less than one percent of total hospital admissions," the DOH noted.
