Assorted firearms, bullets found in compound owned by former Negros Oriental governor

CEBU CITY – Several firearms were seized when operatives of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) raided the property of former Negros Oriental Governor Henry Pryde Teves on Friday dawn, March 24.

Teves is the brother of Negros Oriental Rep. Arnie Teves, who is being implicated in the killing of Negros Oriental Governor Roel Degamo. Valmonte clarified that the raid had nothing to do with Degamo’s killing. “This is still pursuant to the program of the CIDG Paglalansag Omega. That’s the flagship program of CIDG against illegal possession of firearms and explosives,” said Valmonte. At least 10 firearms, including three long firearms, were found. Bullets for shotgun, M14 rifle, 9mm, .45 and 5.56 caliber pistols were also found. The recovered firearms were unlicensed, said Valmonte. Valmonte said they received information that firearms were buried inside the compound. At least three workers of a sugar mill owned by the former governor were arrested after firearms were found in their dwellings located inside the compound, said Valmonte. Valmonte said there was no resistance when authorities arrived to implement the search warrant.
