7 NPA rebels yield in Samar

TACLOBAN CITY – Seven New People’s Army rebels have surrendered to the 87th Infantry "Hinirang" Battalion in San Jose de Buan, Samar this week.

Five were members of the Yakal Platoon, Sub-Regional Committee (SRC) Browser, Eastern Visayas Regional Party Committee (EVRPC) and two were militiamen.

The Army attributed their surrender to the continuous efforts of the Local Peace Engagement (LPE) Cluster of the Municipal Task Force to End Local Communist and Armed Conflict of Paranas, San Jose de Buan, Motiong, and San Jorge towns in Samar.

Lt. Col. Luzelito Betinol, commanding officer of the 87th IB, said the continuous disintegration and surrender of NPA members indicate the effective program of the government.

He shared that fear, hunger, and dismay were the main reasons why they  returned to the fold of the law.

Surrenderers handed over a 60mm mortar, three M14 rifles, an M16 rifle, a caliber .45 pistol, a homemade shotgun, and assorted ammunition.
