Former NPA rebel wanted for robbery arrested in Negros town

BACOLOD CITY – A former member of the New People’s Army (NPA) wanted for robbery was arrested in Barangay Yao-yao, Cauayan, Negros Occidental on Tuesday, March 21.

Policemen served an arrest warrant against Jayson Provedencia, 23, an alleged former member of Platoon 3 of South West Front (SWF).

Capt. Judesses Catalogo, spokesperson of Negros Occidental police, said the case stemmed from an incident in Barangay Masaling, where he allegedly robbed the house of a soldier last year.

The suspect allegedly took the soldier’s two licensed firearms, according to Catalogo. However, the alleged stolen firearms were not recovered anymore.

Catalogo said they are checking the background of the suspect to validate his claim that he had left the armed struggle, and surrendered to the authorities.

The court recommended a bail of P100,000 for his provisional liberty, according to Catalogo.
