Police Brig. Gen. Joel Doria, director of the Police Regional Office 4B, has ordered all police commanders in Mimaropa to initiate donation drives for the communities affected by the oil spill Oriental Mindoro.

Thousands of fishermen and local residents, especially in coastal areas, lost their job and source of income as the government warned if hazard effects of going into the sea, as well as the health effects on the sea products in areas affected by the oil spill.

Based on the monitoring report, almost 21,000 families in the towns of Naujan, Pola, Pinamalayan, Gloria, Basud, Bongabong, Roxas, Mansalay and Bulacacao were affected by the oil spill.

“This is the least we can do for the affected communities of the oil-spill that affected many coastal communities in Oriental Mindoro,” said Doria.

The oil spill already reached nearby areas that include the Verde Island Passage, Palawan and some parts of the Visayas.

The Department of Tourism earlier said the oil spill has already made adverse effects on tourism sites in Mindoro Island and nearby provinces.

He also assured the public that intensified security measures and police presence in the areas affected by oil-spill will be in place.

“One of my marching orders is to enhance PNP's security measures to prevent crimes and ensure that police intervention is in place at all times. Police assistance desks will be deployed to reinforce our security response, assistance and interventions,” PBGEN DORIA explained.

“Rest assured that the PNP is working closely with all other concerned national government agencies and local government units to mitigate the effects of the oil spill in the province,” he added.

The MImaropa covers the provinces of Oriental and Occidental Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon and Palawan.
