Two overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) were injured when the seven-storey building they were staying in Doha, Qatar collapsed, the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) disclosed on Thursday, March 23.
DMW Secretary Susan Ople said the two OFWs suffered bruises but were already discharged from the hospital.
The names of the two OFWs were not released by the department. The incident happened at 8:18 a.m. on Wednesday, March 22 (1:18 p.m. in Manila) in Doha’s Bin Durham neighborhood.
“Three other OFWs residing in the same apartment building were at work when the incident happened,” said Ople.
The official said they already extended assistance to the two OFWs, along with the other Filipinos who were rendered homeless as a result of the incident.
Ople said the assistance was extended to the 30 Filipinos, including two minors and a senior citizen, who were residents of an adjoining three-storey building.
“They have been provided temporary shelter at the Qatar Youth Hostel,” said Ople, adding that the assistance include food and basic necessities.
Local authorities are still investigating the cause of the incident which left at least one person dead.
