CEBU CITY – Various units under the Police Regional Office-Central Visayas (PRO-7) received new firearms as part of the Philippine National Police’s (PNP) capability enhancement efforts.
Maj. Gen. Ronaldo Olay, head of Camp Crame’s Directorate for Logistics, spearheaded the ceremonial turnover of the new firearms on Tuesday, March 21, at the PRO-7 Headquarters.
Among the firearms that were turned over were 533 caliber 5.56 basic assault rifles, 300 9mm pistols and 10 caliber 5.56 light machine guns.
The recipients were the Regional Headquarters, Cebu City Police Office, Cebu Police Provincial Office, Lapu-Lapu City Police Office, Mandaue City Police Office, Siquijor Police Provincial Office and Regional Mobile Force Battalion.
Olay said a set of .50 caliber heavy machine guns will arrive soon and will be distributed to the RMFB and PNP Maritime Group.
Olay said the firearms came from Israel and went through an extensive field testing and evaluation to check their durability.
“Before we accepted these firearms, they underwent field testing and evaluation, especially the 20,000-round testing,” said Olay.
Olay encouraged the recipients to take care of the new firearms.
