Grand Mufti of Region 9, Palawan, Bangsamoro declare Thursday (March 23) first day of Ramadan

The Grand Muftis of Region 9 (Zamboanga Peninsula), Palawan, and Bangsamoro have declared the first day of Ramadan to be on Thursday, March 23. The declaration was made by the Grand Mufti Sheik Abdul Baki Abubakar, the Grand Mufti of region 9 and Palawan, on Wednesday evening, March 22, following the moonsighting activity on the same day. Abdul Baki said that while the crescent moon was not sighted in the Philippines, their counterparts in Indonesia and other parts of Southeast Asia have announced the sighting of the moon in their locality. Darul Ifta of Bangsamoro headed by Mufti Abuhuraira A. Udasan had assigned groups to do the moonsighting activity on Tuesday, March 21, although the crescent moon was not sighted. “Based on this, the Bangsamoro Darul Ifta has decided that the beginning of Ramadan will be on Thursday 23rd of March, 2023, Inshallah,” announced the Bangsamoro Darul Ifta. The holy month of Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar when Muslims all over the world observe fasting, prayer, and charity.
