DOH calls on LGUs to check safety, cleanliness of resorts

The Department of Health urged local government units (LGUs) to ensure the safety and cleanliness of the different resorts as people are expected to flock to such establishments to beat the heat.

Checking the quality of resorts can help avoid the spread of illnesses, said DOH Undersecretary and Officer-in-Charge Maria Rosario Vergeire.

“We remind our local government units to please make sure that these resorts are inspected since people will be flocking them this summer season,” said Vergeire on Tuesday, March 21.

“Please make sure that they are following the appropriate standards for safety, quality, and cleanliness,” she added.

Vergeire also issued the same reminder for the public.

“When we go to these resorts or beaches, make sure that the environment is clean and the water is safe,” she said.

The Health official said that people can “get ear and eye infections in resorts that are unclean and unsafe.” And they “may also experience gastrointestinal symptoms.”

On March 21, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) announced the start of the dry season in the country. This season is expected to bring warmer weather.
