Adamson bounced back at the expense of University of the Philippines with a 25-17, 25-18, 25-23 sweep to end its first round campaign in the UAAP Season 85 women’s volleyball tournament on Wednesday, March 22, at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.

The Lady Falcons averted a third-set meltdown to rejoin the win column and improve 5-2 in the standings.

Kate Santiago carried out the game-high 16 points off 12 attacks, three blocks and a service ace.

The Lady Falcons are now tied with the University of Santo Tomas Golden Tigresses with an identical 5-2 card at the third place.

In the third set, with Adamson leading 23-22, Steph Bustrillo made a costly error but quickly made up for it with a down-the-line kill to keep UP alive at 23-24.

However, Santiago would go for an off-the-block kill to secure the win for Adamson.

"After the first round, we did our job. We were able to get the games that we needed to win. I think our placing is okay," said head coach Jerry Yee.

Alyssa Bertolano was the lone bright spot for UP with a team-high 12 points as it absorbed its fourth straight loss with a 1-6 record at the seventh place ahead of the winless University of the East.
