The Office of the Vice President (OVP) has added a new route for its free bus ride program in the National Capital Region (NCR).

On Tuesday, March 21, Vice President Sara Duterte’s office launched the Libreng Sakay’s Commonwealth-Quiapo route at its central office in Mandaluyong City, where it held a ceremonial prayer and blessing for the two buses.

The OVP partnered with the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA), Quezon City local government, and JAC Liner for the launch.

“Two buses will be deployed to ply from Doña Carmen in Commonwealth Ave., Quezon City to Quiapo Church in Quiapo, Manila and vice versa,” the OVP said in a statement.

“The buses will augment available transportation during peak hours in the morning and afternoon,” it added.

In August of last year, the OVP partnered with the Department of Transportation (DOTr) for the implementation of the free bus ride, which aims to augment the government’s free ride program during rush hours.

Five buses offering free rides are in Metro Manila and in the cities of Cebu, Lapu-Lapu, Mandaue, Bacolod, and Davao.

According to the OVP’s Local Affairs and Special Projects Division, the program has already served a total of 337,673 commuters in 5,852 trips nationwide.
