DepEd ready to partner with LGUs across PH for 'Pabahay Para sa mga Guro' program
Vice President and Department of Education (DepEd) Secretary Sara Duterte said they are willing to join forces with various local government units (LGUs) across the country in order to launch the “Pabahay para sa mga Guro” program far and wide.
“We are willing to partner with LGUs similar to what Quezon City did,” said Duterte in a mix of English and Filipino on Tuesday, March 21.
DepEd’s primary role in the said partnership is to identify teachers fit to benefit the program.
“Meron silang pabahay and [through this, ang] DepEd [ay tumutulong sa] pag identify ng beneficiary teachers natin na qualified para sa kanilang pabahay (They have housing and through this, DepEd helps identify beneficiary teachers who are qualified for the program),” Duterte added.
A total of 144 public school teachers are set to benefit from the initiative, said DepEd. Meanwhile, 300 units will be offered to residents who will be chosen based on their socioeconomic status.
Duterte, together with the National Housing Authority and the Quezon City Government represented by Mayor Joy Belmonte, witnessed the groundbreaking ceremony for the “Pabahay para mga Guro” held in Barangay Holy Spirit, Quezon City.
A memorandum of understanding between DepEd and QC Government was also signed during the event held Tuesday.
“Una po ang pagpapasalamat ko sa local government ng Quezon City sa kanilang imbitasyon sa akin para dumalo sa groundbreaking ng ating pabahay para sa mga Pilipino [lalo na't] ang beneficiaries ay ang ating mga qualified na guro (I thank the Quezon City government for inviting me here at the groundbreaking of our housing for Filipinos, especially since our beneficiaries are our qualified teachers),” Duterte said.
